May Day Festival in East Jordan
May 11, 2013
Sacred Sparks in East Jordan is the place for a great Northern Michigan Celebration: May Day Festival, May 11, 1-5pm. The celebration of spring and May features music, entertainment and story telling with The Vermeers, Ribo and the Flavinauts, and Aaron Otto and Ruby Williams.Children activities include story telling, games, and face painting. The highlight of the day is the May Pole dance with ribbons that weave around the pole with the dancing. Traditions are that the ribbons represent the fruits of the Earth. Wrapping the ribbons around the pole during the dance seals the promise that the season's gardens will be plentiful.
A potluck dinner is on tap; bring a dish to pass, beverages, and table service and chairs. The Festival is a fundraiser for the Women's Resource Center and the Northern Michigan Safe House. Donations of infant care items, non-perishable foods, household supplies, and toiletries.
Sacred Sparks is located at 5070 Mount Bliss Road, East Jordan; 231-536-2704.
